Voting Early or Election Day

Voters across Tennessee have the option of voting during the early voting period or on Election Day.

White County has one (1) early voting location which is located in the White County Election Commission Office on the 2nd floor of the courthouse.  Early voting begins 20 days before the election and ends 5 days before the election.  When there is a Presidential Preference Primary, voting ends on the 7th day.

You do not need a reason to vote early.  You may wish to vote early simply for the convenience of it.

When you arrive at your voting location, whether it be our early voting location or your election day voting location, please have your photo ID out of your wallet and ready to be shown:

Go to the table or counter labeled "Begin Here" to start the voting process.
  1. The first thing you will be asked to do is show you photo ID.
  2. If you have an acceptable form of ID, you will move on to be checked in on the poll pad or computer.  You will be asked to verify your residential address and an application for ballot will be printed for your signature.
  3. If it is a partisan primary, you will also be asked to choose which primary you wish to vote in.
  4. You will then be directed to take the ballot application to the ballot clerk's table where you will be issued the appropriate paper ballot.
  5. After completion of your ballot, you will be directed to the optical scanner for insertion and scanning of your ballot.
  6. Poll officials will be standing by every step of the way if you need any assistance.

Acceptable forms of ID are as follows (even if expired):

1.  Tennessee driver's license with photo
2.  United States Passport
3.  Photo ID issued by TN Dept. of Safety & Homeland Security
4.  Photo ID issued by the Federal or Tennessee State Government
5.  United States Military Photo ID
6.  Tennessee handgun carry permit with photo

What if I don't have an acceptable form of ID or forget to bring to my polling place:

If you don't have an acceptable form of ID when you come to vote, you will vote a provisional ballot.  You will then have two (2) business days after Election Day to return to the White County Election Commission office to bring your valid photo ID.  At that time, you will be asked to sign an affidavit and a copy of your photo ID will be made and reviewed by the White County Election Commission.
